The Portland Police Bureau has disclosed the identity of the man who perished in a traffic collision earlier this month in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood. The victim, revealed as 66-year-old Stephen W. Hicks, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident that occurred on January 2, as reported by the Portland Police Bureau.
Initial findings from the police suggest that a male e-scooter rider was traveling southbound, in the northbound bike lane, atop Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast Tibbetts Street when he collided with a gasoline-powered mini-motorcycle. The motorcycle was moving in the opposite direction, within the same bike lane. The involved parties were wearing helmets at the time, and impairment is not currently considered a contributing factor in the crash.
Authorities arrived at the scene shortly before 5 p.m. on the day of the incident, after being alerted to the crash involving a motorcycle and an e-scooter. The e-scooter’s operator was transported to the hospital, presenting with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
