Video shows Portland officer punch protester during ICE facility arrest

Portland police said they are reviewing a video clip circulating on social media that shows an officer punch a protester while struggling in a scrum of officers to arrest the person. The protester says they were punched in the head.

The Portland Police Bureau has reassigned the officer to work that is not public facing while it looks into the incident, spokesperson Mike Benner said.

The 30-second clip — purportedly taken around 9 p.m. Thursday, hours after Border Patrol shot and wounded two in Southeast Portland — shows officers trying to detain a person in a crowd of protesters outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility near the South Waterfront. As one officer straddles the protester on the ground, the officer punches the person. The person is dressed in dark colors and partially blocked from view, so it’s not clear in the video where the blow landed…
