Solar cycle 25 may be on the downswing, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping the auroras from putting on a show.
A strong solar flare on Sunday was powerful enough to black out some shortwave radios, and now a severe geomagnetic storm is predicted for Tuesday.
All this solar activity means the auroras could be seen “as low as Alabama and northern California,” according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Space Weather Prediction Center.
