PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Did you feel the strong wind this past weekend? Well, there is more to come this week.
Areas of eastern Multnomah County and the greater Portland metro area are expected to continue to experience strong, cold east wind as we begin the work week.
Three fires reported overnight in Portland metro area
Weekend wind reports across the metro area were impressive, with Corbett reporting wind gusts to nearly hurricane force over the weekend. In fact, areas from Troutdale to Corbett have been experiencing strong east wind for the better part of the past week as an area of surface high pressure east of the Cascades continues to keep the strong pressure gradient in place through the Columbia River Gorge for a few more days.
The cold east wind will finally begin to back off by Wednesday as the area of high pressure across the Columbia basin east of the Cascades weakens. But until then, expect wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph across the Portland metro area with gusts in eastern Multnomah County still approaching 70 mph or more near Corbett.
