Ex-fire battalion chief guilty of killing wife, staging death as medical emergency

PORTLAND, Ore. — A former Camas-Washougal fire battalion chief was found guilty Tuesday of murdering his wife in 2024 and attempting to make her death appear to be a medical emergency. A jury found Kevin West guilty of first-degree murder and second-degree murder. He is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

West worked for the Camas-Washougal Fire Department for 22 years before his arrest in March 2024. Investigators said he initially told authorities his wife was having a seizure and stopped breathing. West said he called 911, but Marcelle “Marcy” West was pronounced dead when paramedics arrived.

Investigators later determined that West was having an affair and had discussed ending his marriage or moving out by Jan. 8, the day his wife died. Although West told investigators he would not continue the relationship if something happened to his wife, love letters recovered during the investigation suggested otherwise…
