A Portland woman was sentenced Thursday to nearly eight years in prison for both fleeing her home while her 2-year-old daughter was in cardiac arrest in the residence and for stealing a car at gunpoint two weeks later.
In a negotiated agreement, Mary Jo Jacobo, 27, pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal mistreatment for abandoning her daughter while the girl was in medical distress in 2024. The child died that day.
Police initially suspected the girl had died from fentanyl poisoning, but toxicology results showed no evidence of a drug overdose and the medical examiner listed the cause of the child’s death as “undetermined,” Deputy District Attorney Branden J. Meadows said in court…
