Portland man accused of hiding 104-year-old mother’s body in fridge to collect benefits

PORTLAND, Ore. — A 68-year-old Northeast Portland man was arrested after police found his 104-year-old mother’s body in a refrigerator, according to court documents obtained by KGW.

Richard William Vinyard told police he put his mother’s body in the appliance to continue collecting her Social Security payments, according to an affidavit filed Jan. 23 in Multnomah County Circuit Court.

Portland police conducted a welfare check at Vinyard’s apartment at 1515 Northeast 28th Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 after his brother reported that Vinyard had told him their mother died and that he planned to conceal her death to collect her money, according to the affidavit…
