PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A decrease in dining and the “current state of the nation” have led to the closure of a lauded Portland restaurant.
República is slated to shut down on Saturday, Feb. 21, Angel Medina and Olivia Bartruff announced in a Substack post on Wednesday. The co-owners of the Mexican eatery on 100 NW 10th Ave. revealed they have considered closing for several months now.
“When the numbers drastically dropped last March and April, we had a choice: evolve into something smaller, more casual, more flexible — or tighten up and wait it out,” Medina and Bartruff wrote. “We chose the latter. We reacted instead of reimagining. And when we lost over 30% of our business almost overnight, we tried to fix a systemic wound with a bandage. That mistake cost us more than we can recover.”…
