71-year-old arrested on attempted murder charges in MAX train shooting

Portland Police Bureau arrested a 71-year-old for allegedly shooting a man on a MAX light rail train on Friday morning.

Grover S. Phill, also known as Michael Phill, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of a restricted weapon (brass knuckles).

Around 1 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, officers responded to a shooting on East Burnside Street near Southeast 122nd Avenue where they found a man who was “seriously injured.” Police applied two tourniquets to his leg before he was transported to an area hospital…
