Multnomah County green-lights Halsey Street improvements

The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners on Thursday adopted plans for a project to create a safer and more accessible three-mile stretch of Northeast Halsey Street. The project is in the early design phase.

Since 2017, Fairview, Wood Village, Troutdale and Multnomah County have worked together to create a shared vision for Halsey Street from Northeast 201st Avenue to Southwest 257th Drive. This segment encompasses portions of the Fairview, Wood Village and Troutdale town centers. According to the project’s website, the goal is to transform Halsey Street from a busy, nondescript, car-dominated road into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly and bicycle-friendly “main street.”

“This project is focused on uniting the three cities, and having the agreed project objectives helped to move the project along,” Multnomah County spokesperson Sarah Hurwitz stated in an email. “The cities all saw the value in prioritizing Halsey as a safe corridor.”…
