Witness video captures girl being treated after tear gas at Portland ICE demonstration

PORTLAND, Ore. — A video showing a young girl receiving medical aid after tear gas was deployed during a Portland protest has drawn attention after a witness said the gathering had been peaceful and attended by families before chemical agents were used.

Mark Remy, a Portland-based writer, runner and cyclist, said he recorded the video Saturday as protesters gathered near an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in south Portland. Remy said the demonstration drew thousands and included families, children, seniors and labor union members.

“The vibe was super family-friendly,” Remy said in an interview Sunday with KGW. “I saw folks with their dogs, babies all the way up to seniors who needed canes and walkers.”…
