In early January, TriMet – facing a $150 million budget gap, even after reducing expenses by $150 million in spending reductions last summer – announced that, in this coming August, it is planning to prune some more bus and MAX light rail service around the city to address the problem.
For Inner Southeast, TriMet described the changes it is contemplating. “The service proposals below are based on ridership data, as well as the feedback we heard from riders and the community in the fall of 2025:
Eliminate Line 19. In Southeast Portland, extend “Frequent Service Line 4” to replace Line 19 on S.E. Milwaukie Avenue, S.E. Bybee Boulevard, and S.E. Woodstock Boulevard, with new bus service on Woodstock between S.E. 45th and Lents Town Center. Eliminate service on S.E. Duke. Every other Line 4 bus runs between Downtown Portland and Lents Town Center, with buses arriving every 30 minutes, matching current Line 19 schedules…
