Tigard Stabbing Triggers High-Tech Manhunt In Marshy Woods

A late Wednesday stabbing in Tigard sent a man to the hospital with serious injuries and kicked off a tense, hours-long police search through nearby marshy woods, authorities said.

Officers combed a wooded, swampy area near the scene as detectives tried to track down any suspects or evidence. One person was briefly detained during the sweep, then later released as investigators continued to sort through what happened.

According to a post from Tigard Police, the department deployed an overhead drone equipped with thermal imaging to help guide officers during the nighttime search. The post also confirmed that a man was detained during the operation and then released while detectives pursued additional leads.

Drone Team Turns Night Into Day Over Marshy Woods

The Tigard Police Department runs a drone program staffed by FAA-certified operators, and the devices are used for searches and scene mapping, the city notes. Thermal cameras can pick up heat signatures in low light and through brush, which is especially handy in soggy, hard-to-reach terrain like the area officers were searching.
