PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Portland Public Schools leaders are asking state lawmakers not to approve a proposed $50 million budget cut as the legislative session continues in Salem.
The cut would mark the third consecutive year of multi-million dollar budget reductions for the district. Superintendent Kimberlee Armstrong said the cuts would force the elimination of nearly 300 full-time equivalent positions and could lead to a school closure, but she could not give specifics yet as to what campuses would be impacted.
“I would say 90% of funds are spent on personal so that’s why when we look at a $50 million deficit we are looking at loosing nearly 300 FTE,” Armstrong said…
