PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — About 60 people protested outside the home of Portland Mayor Keith Wilson on Saturday. Organizers said they don’t think the mayor is doing enough to stand up against the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the Rose City.
Portland Contra las Deportaciones helped organize the protest, in which dozens of people marched holding signs against ICE. The main demand is for the city to revoke ICE’s land use permit for its federal facility in South Portland.

“ICE has been terrorizing our city for well over a year at this point,” one organizer with the group, Cole Dunahugh, told KOIN 6 News. “He’s been giving excuses on why he can’t do anything. He can do a lot. He’s the mayor of the city. He can sign executive orders to kick guys out of that facility. He can encourage the permitting and development department to revoke the permit for the facility. He can be doing a lot more than he currently is to combat ICE and protect the city of Portland, but he has not.”
He also pointed to what he described as a lack of action from Portland city councilors.
“A lot of councilors will come out and say that they are against ICE’s presence and that they do want ICE out, but they refuse to put any actual effort towards that. And work to write legislation to kick ICE out of Portland,” Dunahugh said. “They’re the legislative body of Portland, they can put forth legislation to shut down the facility. None of them have done so.”…
