Guaranteed income program launches for pregnant families in Multnomah County

The Bridge Project, a national nonprofit that provides unconditional cash assistance to low-income families, is expanding its program to Multnomah County, where it will serve 100 pregnant individuals beginning this spring.

The expansion builds on the organization’s work in 11 states, where it has supported more than 3,500 families through direct cash payments aimed at reducing childhood poverty during the first years of life. Applications for the Multnomah County program opened last week, with monthly payments scheduled to begin March 1.

The program focuses on a child’s first 1,000 days, a period widely recognized by researchers as critical for healthy development. Participants will receive a one-time prenatal stipend of $1,125, followed by $750 per month for the first 15 months after enrollment and $375 per month for the next 21 months…
