More than a dozen animals transported to Portland in Lake County neglect case

The Oregon Humane Society is once again stepping in to assist a rural community — this time helping rescue 17 dogs and six cats from a suspected neglect case in Christmas Valley.

At the request of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, four OHS staff members traveled from western Oregon on Thursday, Feb. 5 to assist deputies in executing a search warrant following a weeks-long investigation sparked by complaints from concerned neighbors.

Authorities say the conditions at the property raised serious concerns. One puppy was found in critical condition and immediately transported to the Humane Society of Central Oregon for emergency treatment. Three deceased puppies were also recovered at the scene and transferred to OHS’s Animal Crimes Forensic Center in Portland for forensic analysis…
