Bend-area robber escaped prison only to die in a crash on I-205 in West Linn

PORTLAND, Ore. — A man from the Bend area died in a crash on I-205 in West Linn just hours after he was supposed to appear in court for sentencing in a Deschutes County robbery case.

According to Oregon State Police, deputies with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office tried to stop the driver of a white 2002 Lexus for speeding shortly after 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The driver, 54-year-old Douglas Richard York of Crooked River Ranch, instead led them on a pursuit.

Heading southbound, OSP said that York rear-ended a gray Volkswagen Golf driven by a 34-year-old Oregon City man. York then lost control, rolled over, and was thrown from the vehicle. He was then hit by a gray Toyota Corolla driven by a 31-year-old Sherwood woman…
