Driver launches pickup truck into the air and crashes into Washington County house, police say

A man was arrested early Friday after allegedly launching his pickup truck into the air and crashing into a house with a sleeping family inside, police said.

The crash occurred around 3 a.m. in the 13000 block of Southwest Larkwood Place, the Tigard Police Department said in a statement Friday. Witnesses told investigators that they saw the car driving recklessly and speeding before the crash, police said.

Officers said they believe the driver, Jacob Hankins, 33, was driving west on Southwest Scholls Ferry Road when he hit a dirt mound, launching his pickup truck 100 feet into the air, clearing a 3-foot brick wall and crashing into the side of the house.

Hankins was unconscious when officers arrived, police said, and both he and a passenger were trapped and had to be extricated. Both were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
