Multnomah Co. pet shelter in quarantine due to outbreak of deadly illness for dogs

MULTNOMAH COUNTY Ore. (KPTV) – Multnomah County Animal Services issued a quarantine notice on Friday, due to an outbreak of a contagious dog respiratory illness in the shelter.

The quarantine means the shelter is unable to take in new dogs, and no adoptions will be completed during this time. Owners may still reclaim lost pets but the State Veterinarian may require additional at-home care, the shelter said.

The illness, caused by Streptococcus zooepidemicus, has been confirmed to have caused the deaths of two dogs so far through rapid-onset pneumonia, along with a third suspected case, according to the shelter…
