One of Portland’s most prolific taggers faces felony indictment, prosecutors say

The man behind a graffiti tag that has swept across Portland underpasses and highway signs was arrested Thursday, police say.

William P. Matthews — whom police have linked to the nom de paint “Rango” — faces four counts each of misdemeanor and felony criminal mischief, court records show.

An indictment unsealed Friday says Matthews, 22, inflicted thousands of dollars worth of damage to Oregon Department of Transportation property on Interstates 5 and 84, as well as U.S. 26, over a 1½-year span ending in April 2025…
