Two “swatting calls” at Tigard apartment complex among larger trend, county says

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ore. — A false shooting report at a Tigard apartment complex early Sunday morning was determined to be a swatting call — the second such false report at the same complex within hours — as Washington County authorities say the incidents appear to be on the rise throughout the county.

Just after midnight, Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Commons at Avalon Park Apartments in Tigard after a caller from a blocked number claimed he had shot his mother, was holding his 7-year-old brother hostage and threatened to shoot any responding law enforcement, according to the sheriff’s office.

Given the severity of the claims, authorities activated SWAT and crisis negotiations personnel, the sheriff’s office said in an email to KGW Sunday…
