A Sunday house fire in northeast Vancouver sent three residents and their pet scrambling to safety as flames tore through the home’s roof. Fire crews quickly knocked down the main body of the blaze and then spent hours tracking down stubborn hot spots while investigators worked to figure out what sparked the fire.
Just after 4 p.m. Sunday, Vancouver Fire Department crews were dispatched to reports of a house fire in the 3000 block of NE 45th Street. All three residents and their pet escaped without injury, according to KPTV. The damage displaced the occupants, and the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office has opened an investigation.
How firefighters fought the blaze
Crews arrived to find the fire had already moved into the attic. Firefighters attacked the flames from inside the house and from ladders outside, using hose lines while other crews cut ventilation holes in the roof with chainsaws to keep the fire from spreading further. Those tactics helped contain the blaze, but the roof was destroyed.
