PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — A Day of Remembrance rally and march was planned at Elizabeth Caruthers Park to mark the anniversary of the executive order that led to the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II and to protest immigration detention today.
Oregon Tsuru for Solidarity and the Portland Japanese American Citizens League invited the public to attend a “Day of Remembrance Rally to Resist ICE” on Sunday, Feb. 22.
Organizers said the event marks President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s signing of Executive Order 9066 on Feb. 19, 1942, which authorized the U.S. military to forcibly remove and incarcerate more than 125,000 immigrants and U.S. citizens of Japanese descent during World War II…
