3 arrested on attempted murder charges after police give chase

Three people, 16, 17 and 18, were arrested Wednesday after a shooting and a high-speed chase, Portland police said Thursday.

Portland Police Bureau officers first responded to a shooting call near Rocky Butte around 11:15 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene they saw a car leaving and tried to stop it. Instead of stopping, the driver drove off at “reckless speeds.” Police followed, and the driver tried to get away, officers who started chasing him. The driver ran red lights and passed slower cars in turn lanes, police said.

Even after police deflated at least one of the car’s tires, the car kept going, until finally officers were able to force the car to stop near the intersection of Northeast 148th Avenue and Halsey Street. Officers surrounded it and arrested the three people inside. They were all in custody by 11:28 p.m…
