Portland man accused in high-speed Hillsboro crash that killed passenger to stay in jail before trial

Prosecutors say a Portland 19-year-old got behind the wheel drunk, threatened another driver with a gun, sped up to 99 mph while still drinking cans of Four Loko, then crashed into a pole and fled, abandoning his seriously injured passengers — one of whom later died.

On Friday, a judge ruled that Oscar Bennett Regis, who is now 20, will have to stay in jail pending a trial in the fatal Hillsboro crash on Feb. 9. He is facing more than a dozen charges, including manslaughter, assault, driving under the influence and recklessly endangering other people.

Regis’ attorney, Ryan Anfuso, called for his client’s release with strict security conditions, but Washington County Circuit Judge Oscar Garcia rejected the argument…
