A Portland sleeping pod became a 30-foot tower of flames, killing a man and his dog

A sleeping pod at a North Portland alternative shelter turned into “a mass of burning material that was about 30 feet tall” on Monday evening, according to Rick Graves, a spokesperson for the Portland Fire Bureau.

The person inside the pod at the time, Gary Scott Young, 33, and his dog were killed in the inferno, according to additional information released Wednesday afternoon.
