PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A recent analysis from StreetLight, a transportation data firm, ranked metro areas with the safest roads across the United States and named the Portland metro area among the best.
The StreetLight report, first reported by Axios, measured the 100 most populated metros across five factors: vehicle miles traveled, speed differential risk, speed-based pedestrian risk, truck activity and residential speeding.
According to the report, the Portland metro area ranks third on the list for the safest roads in the U.S.

“Portland, Oregon ranks as one of the strongest performers for roadway safety overall, based on our metrics. But when we look at the metro’s scores on individual metrics, we can see that its biggest areas for potential improvement are speeds on pedestrian-heavy roads, where Portland ranks in the middle of the pack, as well as truck activity per capita, where it falls outside the top third,” the StreetLight report says…
