Man who shot out several traffic cameras around Portland sentenced to 2 years in prison

PORTLAND, Ore. — A former U.S. Army soldier and mechanic who shot out several traffic cameras across Portland has been sentenced to two years and ordered to pay over $50,000 in restitution.

On Wednesday, Chase Grijalva, now 30, pleaded guilty to several charges — unlawful use of a firearm, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree criminal mischief. The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office said Grijalva had caused over $50,000 of property damage while firing multiple times within city limits.

Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Andrew Lavin sentenced him to 24 months in prison, as well as 60 months — or five years — of formal probation with 60 months of prison suspended, meaning that if Grijalva violates the terms of his probation, he could be ordered back to prison for 60 months.
