Rain records broken as Northwest hammered by atmospheric river, more on the way

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — An atmospheric river that has pummeled the Pacific Northwest this week, causing flooding and landslides, has broken rainfall records.

“This Atmospheric River event is one for the record books,” KATU Storm Tracker 2 Meteorologist Dave Salesky posted on social media on Thursday afternoon. “Portland, Astoria & Hillsboro tied or broke 24 hour rainfall records. I won’t be surprised if we break the record again today or Friday. “

On Wednesday, Portland tied its 2002 record, with 1.15 inches of rain. Hillsboro broke its 2002 record of 1.15 inches, with 1.39 inches. Astoria has seen 1.91 inches, soaking its 2010 record of 1.41 inches…
