Portland-area homeless shelter provider announces closure after whistleblower complaint

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — About a month after an ex-employee accused a Portland-area shelter provider of misappropriating finances, the nonprofit has announced it is preparing to close “due to decreasing revenues and increasing operating costs.”

Sunstone Way, which was once known as All Good Northwest, currently operates six homeless shelters across Multnomah and Clackamas counties. But on Friday, the organization confirmed to KOIN 6 that it will permanently shut down on Wednesday, July 1.

“The recent and anticipated funding reductions, coupled with anticipated increase in expenses in fiscal year 2027, forced the Board of Directors to make this hard decision,” Sunstone Way said in a statement. “While Sunstone way is closing, the shelters are not. We’re announcing it now to give our staff as much notice as possible, and we’re working with our partners to ensure continuation of support for those who need shelter and housing services.”

Just last month, the nonprofit’s former Director of Finance Kate Fulton sued the organization and three of its executives for $4.5 million — alleging they had misused hundreds of thousands of funds that Multnomah County’s Joint Office of Homeless Services had set aside for operations…
