Water main break in Northeast Portland causes street flooding, traffic detours

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Nearly three blocks in Northeast Portland were flooded after a water main break, prompting closures and traffic detours in the area Saturday morning.

Portland Water Bureau officials say the break was made in a 16-inch cast iron water main made in 1957.

As of 8 a.m., their crews are working to stop the water flow and pinpoint the location of the break.

Effects of heavy rains persist throughout Portland area

Officials say the flooding covers both directions of Northeast Multnomah Street between 11th and 13th Avenues and the city is advising travelers to avoid the area.

Additionally, water service is impacted for homes and businesses in the area, including Lloyd Center and the Lloyd Regal Lloyd Cinemas. As a result, the Water Bureau says customers may be out of water or asked to boil it while repairs are being made…
