Effects of heavy rains persist throughout Portland area

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Days of heavy rains are taking their toll and triggering rescues in Washington County. Meanwhile, rivers in eastern Multnomah County are still hours from reaching their peak, as of Friday afternoon.

The west side is still reeling from the storm — from a car engulfed in floodwater to roads closed due to downed trees and landslides.

In Portland, rain sent trees and earth cascading down between two homes on Southwest Fairmount Boulevard. Northwest Germantown Road was also shut down due to a landslide.

“It’s really important that everyone, when you encounter the actual site of a slide like that, that we’ve marked the barricades, do not cross those barricades. You’re putting your own life at risk and potentially others,” Dylan Rivera with PBOT said.
