Bottle redemption center’s move to Southeast Portland meets with community pushback

PORTLAND, Ore. — A plan to bring a bottle redemption center to Southeast Portland is facing pushback, with neighboring residents and business owners urging a pause due to concerns about crime, but the group behind the project says it’s full steam ahead.

Holly is homeless in Portland’s Central Eastside, and five days a week, she collects cans to deliver to the People’s Depot, nestled under the Morrison Bridge.
