Residents face uncertainty as Portland shelter operator shuts down

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — City and county officials are still not prepared to answer questions about what’s next for hundreds of people living at six shelters run by a nonprofit set to dissolve at the end of June.

“We are still in a holding pattern. This is new information, but we are actively assessing next steps. Our first priority is to ensure a transition that minimizes disruption and centers the needs of shelter participants,” Laura Rude, a spokesperson for Portland Shelter Services, wrote in an email to KATU.
