Pearl District landlord files $6M lawsuit over impacts of NW Northrup Shelter

PORTLAND, Ore. — A new homeless shelter in Portland’s Pearl District is at the center of a $6 million lawsuit against the city, filed by the owners of a neighboring apartment complex that is also asking for the shelter to permanently close if they continue to lose rent.

The lawsuit was filed on Tuesday in Multnomah County Court by Pearl District Apartments, LLC, which owns the ORO Apartments next door to the new Salvation Army-run shelter.

They claim the shelter “created a persistent and foreseeable pattern of drug use, public disorder, sanitation hazards, trespass, and criminal activity immediately outside the ORO Apartments.”…
