On the second day of spring – March 21, a sunny Saturday – just after 2 p.m., a motorcyclist traveling Powell Boulevard failed to avoid a car turning in front of him and slammed into the side of a black SUV.
Responding Central Precinct officers found the motorcycle and rider down on the pavement near the center of S.E. Powell Boulevard in front of the Hopworks Brewery; and nearby, a black Mercedes-Benz GLE mid-size luxury SUV – with damage to the passenger’s side door – was stopped facing south on S.E. 28th Avenue.
“Paramedics arrived and rushed the motorcycle rider to an area hospital, but that rider later died,” a PPB official told reporters. “The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene.” The identity of the deceased rider had not been made public as this issue of THE BEE went to press…
