Late-Night SR-500 Dash By Vancouver Mall Ends In Tragedy

A 36-year-old man died Thursday night after he was struck by a car while trying to cross the westbound lanes of State Route 500 next to the Vancouver Mall, in a crash that brought late-night traffic to a crawl. The collision was reported shortly before 11 p.m. Authorities have not yet released the man’s name as they work to notify his family and sort through what happened.

According to KATU, Washington State Patrol troopers say initial reports indicate the man was attempting to cross the westbound lanes when he was hit by a westbound driver in a Chevy Cruze. Troopers pronounced him dead at the scene and reiterated that his name is being withheld until relatives can be notified.
