TRANSIT TERROR: Suspect Arrested After Stealing High-Value Brass Infrastructure from MAX Platforms; Safety Hazards Created

PORTLAND, OR — A multi-agency investigation has led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man accused of dismantling and stealing critical infrastructure from TriMet MAX platforms, creating significant safety risks for commuters.

Between March 17 and March 19, 2026, several large brass plates—each valued at over $1,000—were unscrewed and stolen from MAX stations along North Interstate Avenue. Investigators state the missing plates left dangerous openings and uneven surfaces where riders could easily trip or fall, especially in low-light conditions.
