ATF Dog Sniffs Out Pistol After Gunfire Erupts at Rural Hillsboro Teen Rager

A massive weekend party on a rural Hillsboro property ended in gunfire late Saturday, sending two people to the hospital and drawing a swarm of law enforcement to the scene. Neighbors and partygoers reported a crowd of juveniles, alcohol, and then shots in the dark. Before the night was over, an ATF dog had sniffed out a discarded pistol near the property.

In a March 30 media release, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched at about 11:23 p.m. on March 28 to the 15200 block of SW Holly Hill Road in unincorporated Hillsboro after callers estimated 100 to 200 people at the party. According to the release, some callers reported that attendees were armed, and a deputy pulling up to the scene heard gunfire. Multiple people were detained as officers worked through what they initially treated as an active scene. The two people hit by bullets were taken by ambulance and treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.

ATF K9 Moby Locates Firearm

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives sent in an explosives-detection dog, Moby, to help search the area. According to ATF Seattle, K9 Moby assisted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at the scene and located a pistol near the property.

Detentions and Investigators’ Appeal

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Violent Crimes Unit and the Washington County Major Crimes Team said two males, a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, were detained by initial responders in connection with the shooting, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
