Incoming homeless services director approved despite concerns from Multnomah County leaders

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Multnomah County has approved a new homeless services director despite concerns from some officials.

With a 3-2 vote from the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners on Thursday, Nathaniel VerGow was appointed as the Homeless Services Department’s next leader. He is slated to take over the role on May 4, although some local leaders expressed hesitation over his appointment.

VerGow most recently worked as Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority’s deputy chief program officer, in addition to previous roles as a case manager, housing and outreach manager and behavioral health project director.
