First furlough day planned for PPS this week as district considers shuttering schools

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Portland Public Schools will have its first furlough day this week as the district continues to explore ways to cut costs this school year.

The May 1 furlough day means there will be no school for students, and teachers will not be paid. This comes as PPS faces a $50 million budget shortfall.
