Portland police said they broke up a large street takeover Saturday night, May 9.
“At approximately 11:40 p.m., officers disrupted a group of approximately 100 street racers near Northeast 158th Avenue and Northeast Airport Way,” Portland police said. “A short time later, a group gathered at Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northeast Columbia Boulevard, but by the time officers arrived, the group had moved to a parking lot in the 14300 block of North Columbia Boulevard, where North Precinct officers, Traffic Division members and Air Support Unit officers coordinated a response to address the dangerous activity.”
Police said they were able to establish probable cause for an unlawful street takeover. The event included a red Corvette that drove away at a high rate of speed after officials tried to contact the driver. Police said the car reached speeds near 100 mph before crossing into Washington state…
