Roger Williams Park Zoo to move elephant herd to sanctuary in Tennessee

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — The three African elephants at the Roger Williams Park Zoo will be leaving the zoo after over 35 years in Providence, the zoo announced Tuesday.

Alice, Ginny and Kate, who were first brought to Providence in October of 1990, will be relocated to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee in late 2027.

The zoo announced in 2025 that they had begun a rehoming process for the animals in order for them to receive the best care possible in their old age…
