Providence ramps up efforts to crack down on off-road vehicles, pop-up parties

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence officials provided an update Wednesday on their efforts to improve public safety and quality of life by cracking down on disruptive behavior, from ATVs and dirt bikes being ridden on city streets to large gatherings and loud music blasting all night.

Mayor Brett Smiley, Col. Oscar Perez and other members of the city’s police department held a news conference at Roger Williams Park, which they say has been a frequent location of so-called “pop-up parties.”

These events, often organized through social media, typically move around to different locations and can involve hundreds of people. Earlier this week, five people were shot at one such event on Harris Avenue and there were arrests made and an assault at another on Broad Street…
