With just over two months to go before Rhode Island’s Sept. 9 primary, spending on television ads by the top two Democratic candidates for governor is now well-above the $1 million mark.
Two-thirds of that spending came from the woman trying again to unseat Gov. Dan McKee, according to a review of purchase forms filed by Rhode Island’s local broadcast stations and cable providers to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
FCC filings show former CVS executive Helena Bounanno Foulkes’ campaign committed over $822,000 on 3,867 spots since first taking to the airwaves in late May. McKee, who was first to debut an ad, has so far spent a little under $422,000 on 1,021 broadcast TV spots that will air through mid-July…
