Precision parachute teams jump in Rhode Island Guard’s 41st Leapfest

EXETER, RI (WJAR) — Teams of military parachute jumpers from throughout the world gathered at Quonset Point on Saturday morning for a helicopter ride to Exeter to compete in the Rhode Island National Guard’s annual Leapfest event.

According to the Guard Leapfest was born in 1982, created by a Green Beret based in the Ocean State and it’s been held almost annually since. This year’s Leapfest is the 41st.

Teams of four jumpers exit a CH-47 Chinook helicopter at over 2000 feet above the ground in Exeter with the goal of completing their series of precision jumps in the fastest time…
