Weather Alert: Heavy rain, localized flooding possible on Monday in Southern New England

It’s a Storm Team 10 Weather Alert to start the workweek, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected on Monday across Southern New England.

Rain begins before sunrise Monday morning, with off-and-on downpours expected periodically through the afternoon. A few thunderstorms will be possible too.

There’s a consistent signal that the axis of heaviest rain will be found north and west of I-95 across northwestern Rhode Island, and especially towards central Massachusetts and Connecticut.

In this region, expect 1 to 3 inches of rain with locally higher amounts possible.

In those cities and towns that receive two or three inches of rain, we could see localized street/poor drainage flooding. Less than 1 inch of rain is expected towards the coastline.

There’s the possibility we could see a few strong to severe thunderstorms across inland locations on Monday, with that threat again focused towards central and western Massachusetts. Gusty winds would be the primary concern with this activity.

It will be a generally windy day on Monday, even outside of thunderstorms. Not a pleasant day to be outdoors; plan on indoor activities to start the workweek!…
