SCITUATE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island State Police announced 10 promotions on Friday, including a new second in command.
Uniform Bureau Commander, Maj. Erik Yanyar, will be promoted to the rank of Lt. Colonel, according to Col. Darnell Weaver.
Yanyar graduated from Roger Williams University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He served for seven years in the Rhode Island Army National Guard and graduated from the state police’s recruit class in 2000.
He served 10 years as a uniformed trooper on patrol, and a narcotics K-9 handler with the Division Canine Unit. As a member of the Detective Bureau, he was assigned to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) task force…
