WARWICK, R.I. (WJAR) — Senior dogs and cats waiting for a second chance were in the spotlight Saturday at an adoptathon hosted by the Rhode Island SPCA.
The event was part of the shelter’s August effort to help clear its kennels and encourage adoptions of adult animals, which staff say often wait longer for homes than puppies and kittens.
“The goal of all of August has been to clear the shelters,” the Rhode Island SPCA’s events and community relations manager Olivia Warburton said. “Adult animals tend to stay a little longer than the kittens and the puppies, so we wanted to give them a little extra boost to get them attention.”…
